Is It A Good Idea To File Taxes Online?
Is it bascially the same as going into an office to get these filed? I’m 23, married with a 5 year old son. Very basic tax return since I do not own a house or anything. Would I receive just as much filing online or is it best to go into an office??

I use turbo tax each year and it works great. It’s very easy, leads you thru everything and even points out some deductions I might not have thought of (and which the H & R Block guy never thought of when we had taxes done with them previously). It’s not as expensive as going into a place either, and you can keep your files electronically as well as print them out. If you use the bank deposit refund option, you’ll have your refund really quickly (it took only 14 days last year for us to get our refund from both feds and state).

I recommend that anyone who doesn’t itemize deductions (Schedule A) have rent or royalties (Schedule E) or a Personal Business (Schedule C) try to do their taxes free online.
If you go to the http://www.irs.gov and click on the “Free File” link on the left you will be directed to a series of vendors who offer free online filing & software to qualifying people. Most of the companies have their own qualifications (under $50,000 gross, Earned Income Credit eligible, etc etc) so you just need to look through until you see a company you qualify for.
The software packages (the two that I’ve used, TaxSlayer & H&R Block) use the same “interview” style as the programs you have to purchase. They ask you if you have W-2s, who your children are, etc etc and then give you the option to e-file with the IRS.
The only snag is the Free File does not usually include a state filing. However, once you’ve completed your federal filing, you can usually go to your State’s Revenue website and e-file directly with them as well. If not, you may have to file a paper state return, but since typically the larger refunds are from the federal government, you will still be receiving your larger check faster.

If you enter everything correctly, your refund would be the same, but it won’t cost you the fee you’d pay if you went to an office.
